GIRLS INC. OF GREATER HAVERHILL BECOMES YOUTH EMPOWERHOUSE
New Organization Provides Expanded After School Programs for Boys, Girls and Toddlers

Haverhill, MA, May 17, 2018 – Girls Inc. of Greater Haverhill, announced today that it has changed its name to Youth EmpowerHouse. Building on more than 100 years of experience as a Girls Inc. affiliate, the new name is part of a broader initiative to provide quality, affordable out-of-school programs for all children ages 6 through 18 in the Greater Haverhill area.

“We have helped generations of young women develop self-esteem, life skills and independence – and we have watched with pride as they matured into self-sufficient, responsible citizens in our community,” said Robin Whitson, who continues as director for the new organization. “Our new name and future programming are the product of a multi-year strategic planning process through which we determined that we could best serve Greater Haverhill families by expanding our vision to include more diversification, and inclusive programming.”

After school programs at the Youth EmpowerHouse are designed to help children develop positive relationships with peers, their families, their teachers, and the adults around them. Enriching and inspiring activities, including STEM, sports, art and theater, empower kids to succeed in school, in life, and in their careers.

Recognizing the challenges faced by working families, and especially single-parent families, the organization offers the convenience of a safe and supportive environment in a single location.

“This is a very exciting time for Haverhill,” adds Karen Lassiter, President of the Board of Directors. “Affordable after school programs delivering high quality learning and enrichment opportunities in and around the city are limited, so this is a major milestone for the community.”

The Youth Empower House will remain in its William Street location, and plans are underway to expand and update the facility.
